September 2006

We are well into our third month of the official VFW year. Thanks to all that helped out on August 12th clean up day, we sure made a big difference around the Post.

Commander Deyo would like to thank the many volunteers who help out, a deserving an serious Thank You , for giving your time on August 19 th at the Post 20 Week Club BBQ , that included setup, cooking ,serving, clean up and break down and the many more other assignments that day. It was a great success and, everyone had a great time. Best of luck to the winners of the 20 Week Club drawings.

2007 Dues our being sent out now, by the National VFW renew early and we can be once again a 100% post by January 1st 2007. Let’s do it.

The Department of New York, Veterans of Foreign Wars Fall Conference will be held on October 13-15, 2006 at the Holiday Inn, Liverpool, New York.

The office of Chaplin in the Veterans of Foreign Wars is an important one although the person in that position is seldom given adequate recognition. I would like to take the time to thank Joe Rappa for his continuous support to the membership of Post 8645 as Post Chaplin; Joe duties include funerals with the Post Rifle and Honor Guard when asked to honor a veteran. With veterans from WW II dying at a rate of about 1,500 a day or more through out the United States, Participation in funerals is an increasing responsibility. “Again Thanks Joe ".

VFW Day at Castle Point Veterans Hospital was scheduled for Sunday, September 10th at 12 noon. The Post Honor Guard & Rifle Squad attended this special day by honoring these veterans. Patriot Day was held at the Post home, Commander Dave and the Post Honor Guard & Rifle Squad gave Remembrance to September 11, 2001, when terrorist attack New York City, Washington DC, Pennsylvania

September 16th is POW/MIA Recognition Day. Lets all remember them in our prayer and thoughts. Fly your colors, show your support.

September 17th is the Post Breakfast, hope to see you there we have a great menu to choose from. Adults $5.00, Children $3.00

Dates to remember:

November 10, United States Marine Corp. Birthday
November 11, Veterans Day - The Post will have an open house to all veterans (Details to follow)
November 24, Thanksgiving Day

We are always in need of volunteers to spearhead dinners, and the good thing about that is that you cook what you want.

If you know anyone who is ill please contact the post, to those who are ill, we wish you a speed recovery. To those who have lost a loved one, our deepest sympathy.

Our next monthly meeting is October 3rd, 2006 hope to see you, and try to bring in a new member. It would be nice to see more members getting involved.

To our troops God bless and keep safe.
